Literature Text

The median is a twenty foot by five hundred mile stretch of prairie land between two grey black strips of asphalt. If you focus hard enough on it, you can lose yourself two hundred years in the past.

Prairies give way to trees – small copses of forest – and every now and then the land drops down altogether to a creek or river coursing through the ages. Any fauna curious to see what the outside world is like soon have their hopes dashed at seventy-three miles per hour.

Artificial wind from the SUV's and semi-trucks blow the tall grasses almost like it would before our species ever laid eyes on the expanses of the plains. Flowers the names of which man has long since forgotten creep up the posts of Do Not Mow signs, testaments to things we wish we could remember in the oldest corners of our minds.
This is a thing I did.

This is now all I will be able to think about when I'm on a highway.
